Classroom Without Walls (CWW) is an experiential learning program intended to give students (K4-12th) outside of the classroom learning opportunities. The CWW experience offers students the opportunity to engage in educational field trips which take place in Bogotá, in the suburbs of Bogotá, the various regions of Colombia, and foreign countries.
At CNG we envision CWW as part of our formal curriculum, therefore all CNG students, Kinder 4 – 12th grade, are encouraged to participate.
All CWW trips are designed around CNG’s school mission: “to prepare tomorrow’s leaders by educating the mind, nurturing the spirit, and strengthening the body”. In order to ensure that we address CNG’s mission, all trips have specific academic objectives which are aligned to the curriculum for each grade level in the different subject areas.
Every CWW program must include a service learning activity whereby CNG students engage in a social activity that supports the local community. Service Learning is a method of teaching through which students apply their academic skills and knowledge to address the real-life needs in their own communities. Service learning teaches and develops the ethic of service and civic responsibility. By solving real life problems and addressing real needs, students learn to apply classroom learning to a real world context.
For those middle and high school students who do not attend the CWW trip, local day trips will be offered during the CWW week. These trips will also include specific academic and social objectives.
All CWW trips are led by a professional outdoor education company which, together with CNG staff members, coordinate and organize the specifications of each trip. In order to guarantee the safety and security of all trips, the Academic Support Services Office (ASSO)designs a Risk Management Plan which is implemented for each individual program. In order for a trip to take place, it must first receive security clearance from the U.S. Embassy and local police authorities.
